Natural Technique

Gage Green Genetics produces each cannabis seed in a pristine environment using the most advanced techniques incorporating natural and organic methods. Our plants are grown in organically-based super soil composed of the highest quality ingredients and handled by our highly skilled growers with the utmost care and techniques. Each individual plant is grown to its fullest potential before pollination to make the best seeds possible.

We avoid “selfing” or “feminizing” seeds because they often involve chemically induced processes and lessens the vibrancy and resiliency of the cannabis gene pool. Our natural technique and advanced growing environment provide the basis for producing healthy and vibrant cannabis seeds.

F1 Hybrids

Most of Gage Green Genetics are F1 Hybrids. This classifies all the first generation crosses between different cannabis strains.

Gage Green uses the frostiest, most potent, and tastiest mothers in all our crosses. Some of our cuts are rare, clone-only varieties with interesting backgrounds and lineages while others are selected from seed. Each male we select takes extensive testing time and our studs have shown time and time again that they can improve even the most proven cuts. F1 Hybrids and their parents both have undergone rigorous testing to ensure stability and premiere performance.

Part of growing Gage Green Genetics is the opportunity to find something completely new and exciting. Our proven parents give growers access to the finest genetic characteristics we have cataloged in seed form. The variation in our F1 Hybrids is what makes our seeds so special. Each pack contains unique combinations of the best straits in cannabis so that every phenotype you experience from your plant is the first of its kind.

In addition, F1 Hybrids experience what breeders and scientists call “heterosis” or “hybrid vigor.” This shows up definitively when growing F1 Hybrids alongside inferior genetics. Heterosis is the opposite of “inbreeding depression.” F1 Hybrids grow to demonstrate intense vigor and increased performance in various aspects like potency and bud development.

Inbred Lines (IBL)

Our Inbred Lines are mainly focused on preserving the combination of phenotypes that we have found in certain cuts. We have worked on Inbred Lines for many of our favorite genetics. For the Grape Stomper, we have tried to pass on the clone-only traits via seeds without using “selfing” techniques. Using the same male that fathered the Grape Stomper, we backcrossed the Grape Stomper with the Chemdawg Sour Diesel male. This technique preserves the frost and medical qualities of the Grape Stomper without much deviation from the original clone.

Gage Green has also used human selection to pick notable phenotypes (fragrance smell and higher yield) in our Colombian Gold and Colombian Black lines. We bred the outstanding males and females to create a new generation of Colombians. We preserved the Willie Nelson’s genetic variation through an open pollination. We germinated Willie Nelson genetics obtained from a friend and allowed the flowering mothers with the full-blown males to mingle in a tent.

How to Germinate Seeds

Many seed germination techniques have been documented for cannabis. Our seeds are very versatile and vigorous and can survive some of the most extreme conditions. A few seeds may have a stronger coating and may need to be slightly scuffed to allow water to enter.

The preferred germination technique at the Gage Green Gardens is the wet paper towel method. We submerge our seeds straight out of the pack in Reverse Osmosis water in a dark space overnight or until the seeds drop to the bottom of the water. We then place the bloated seeds between a folded paper towel that is kept damp in a dark space. While keeping the folded paper towel damp, check seeds daily until sprouts appear from the seeds. Finally, place the sprouts into an aerated, light soil mix under appropriate lighting.

How to Select Genetics

Selecting your Gage Green champion can be done in a few easy steps. Each pack should come with 50-50 male and female seeds.

Most growers will determine the sex of each plant and cull, or get rid, of the males. Male pollen is very hard to manage when there are flowering females in the area. Without adequate filtration and barriers, male pollen can quickly turn a sensi, or seedless, crop into one full of viable, yet undesired seeds.

Experienced growers may want to keep their males for personal breeding projects. Selecting heirloom males is a very difficult since one cannot see the female flowers that the genes will produce. A male plant’s positive or negative attributes might not even be realized until several generations later. That is why Gage Green takes years to develop true-breeding males.

While our beautiful female cuts play an important role in our hybrids, it is the males’ ability to add frost, flavor, potency, and yield that take our hybrid genetics to the next level. We will only cover selecting females since the art of selecting a good male takes years of experience and patience to grow out and test its offspring.

Selecting females requires much less intuition and experience. The key is simply to flower out all the females and determine which ones are the champions and are worth keeping in the library.

Remember, it is very difficult to bring a plant back to its vegetative stage once it has switched to flowering stage. It is recommended that backup clones or tissue samples are taken from the females before putting them under a 12-12 light cycle. Our preferred method involves taking clones from the plants in vegetative stage before putting them into flower. This ensures that the clones are healthy and viable before placing the plants into flower. Others will keep the plants in vegetative state to take clones off of. The original mother plants are never put into flower, only the clones taken from that plant. This prevents loss of backup clones. Some growers prefer put all their seedlings into flower to determine the sex of their plants before taking cuts in the early weeks of flower. This saves time but puts stress on the clones that must revert back to vegetative stage after coming out of a flowering cycle.

Once the backup clones or mothers are sure to make it, it’s time to see what the females are capable of. Place the females into 12-12 flowering light cycle and treat them with compassion. In a suitable environment, Gage Green Genetics will flourish. It will take time to discover the perfect feeding regimen for each particular phenotype because they will all display slightly different preferences. Throughout the flowering stage, make sure to take notes on growth pattern, nutrient levels, and other notable characteristics. Also, give special attention to the clones or the mother plants. These will be very valuable once your favorite phenotype is selected for.

Some people decide to only keep their favorite phenotype while others will save all of their phenotypes. Keep these as mothers or clone the plants in order to maintain them in your library.
